How people from different countries spend their time
Time, it seems, is what all the people are short of these days. There are thousands of studies every year into how people spend their time and how they could spend it better. Some outcomes of these studies are startling.
People are working longer hours than in the past but they waste plenty of time during these hours on chatting, flirting, surfing the Internet, sending messages to friends and colleagues. According to the latest research the vast majority European women work full-time but they still do the main share of the housework too. No wonder, that most of the working women in the UK feel stressed and exhausted, although the British family doesn’t spend much time cooking and prefers pre-cooked meals and takeaways.
After sleeping and working, using media is by far the most popular leisure activity in the world. Social networks and YouTube are champions in the statistic of the most popular ways to spend free time. Some people remember the ex-champion – TV: for example, the British watch more television than any other nation in Europe but they also read more.
Besides, in the UK pensioners are twice more active than teenagers. They spend nearly two hours a day doing physical activities such as walking, cycling, gardening or sport. According to the latest research the Swedes and Finns are the sportiest nationalities in Europe and do some activities or play sports at least once or twice a week.
The average American teenager spends only half an hour a day doing homework and less than 20 percent of young people participate in sport, social activities, music or other hobbies. Instead, they spend their time chatting on smartphones, hanging out with their friends in shopping malls, playing computer games, relaxing and doing nothing.
All in all, it doesn’t matter what countries people come from, they have got a lot in common. They spend more time on the Internet than eating, sleeping, studying, watching TV, doing sports and shopping combined! Anyway they lead their life the way they want.
